Busy, Busy, Busy!

Another school year ended and we were on the road for WEEKS!

The summer term saw us kicking off with a visit to North Wales where we are Patron of Reading at two schools.

We had a great time at:

Ysgol Melyd, Meliden, Denbighshire

Cystennin Junior School in Mochdre, Colwyn Bay.

-1Students at Ysgol Melyd made masks of us – we look better than we do in real life!

-3Someone got mixed up! This is actually Julia Donaldson, author of The Gruffalo. I think she’d be surprised to find out she is now married to Steve B!

We had a week of writing and then it was up to the North East working with the Catholic Partnership schools around Stockton. We gave talks and workshops with year seven students from several schools. Thanks to the following schools for hosting the days:

St Robert of Newminster, Washington, Tyne & Wear

St Michael’s, Billingham;

Our Lady & St Bede School, Stockton-on-Tees.

We also took the opportunity to visit the brilliant Student Librarian Awards Evening. It was held at Yarm School’s new theatre. It really was a fantastic evening and an amazing venue!

We caught our breath and then headed to Willenhall and St Thomas More School for a couple of days of visits. We’re looking forward to seeing you again next year!

Mid-May saw us heading down to Pembrokeshire again – we stay in Little Haven and it is like a home from home! It was beautiful and didn’t rain (much!).

-4Little Haven is our haven in Pembrokeshire!

We had some great days at Geli Aur, Pembroke; Glannau Gwaun, Fishguard; Fenton CP School, Haverfordwest and Holy Name RC School, Fishguard.

-5At Glannau Gwaun, we were given this robot made out of rubbish– not sure why!

We arrived in Coventry for a big Chatterbooks event with lots of schools from the area – iHero went down a storm! Then we nipped over to our old East Midlands stamping ground and visited Sawly Junior School.

The Steve S headed North for a day in libraries in Hartlepool and then it was June!

June was EPIC! We travelled hundreds of miles and saw thousands of students!

First we headed east to Norfolk and Ipswich to meet up with new and old friends.

Two weeks of fun and games visiting… big breath…

We were back on the road to North Wales to visit our 2 Patron of Reading schools and give out prizes and certificates to those students who had done LOADS of reading! Well done all of you! These visits were interspersed with a fabulous day at Hindley High School near Wigan.

Then Steve B headed off to the Glastonbury Festival and Steve S went for a lie down! But not for long because then we were in Cornwall for a week visiting the following schools,: Redruth School, Torpoint College, Mounts Bay Academy, Penzance and Hale Community School.

-7Us at Lizard’s Point – the southern tip of mainland UK

We ended the academic year where we’d begun it – in Wales. We had 2 days in Ebbw Vale, where we spoke to year 8s and 9s and had a great time!

Phew – that’s us done – we need a holiday!
